THE MINYAN PRINCIPLE

Minyan, in Jewish tradition, is a quorum of ten Jews (for Orthodox Jews, ten males) above age thirteen necessary for public services and certain other religious ceremonies to be considered valid.

The Minyan principle first emerges in a conversation between God and Abraham in regard to the intended destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah:

Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” The LORD said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”  He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

GENESIS 18: 23-26, 32, 33

This principle applies to Gentiles as is alluded to again in the following passage:

Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men out of all languages of the nations shall take hold of the robe of him who is a Jew, saying, Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

ZECHARIAH 8: 23

In conformity with the Minyan principle, therefore, I pray to Jehovah, if it is His will, to enable me establish an intercession ministry of at least ten Christians in every local congregation to:

1.  Actively pray for the protection, survival and prosperity of Israel.

2.  Appreciate that our salvation, protection, survival and prosperity as Christians, are inexorably interwoven with the peace of Israel.

3.  Raise awareness among concerned Christians about the threats that Israel is facing from international anti-Semitism and Islamic fundamentalism.

4.  Advocate for the right of Israel to exist and have a peaceful home free from terrorism and vilification.

5.  Lobby for our governments’ support for Israel in international fora.

6.  Network with other individuals and organisations with similar convictions to support Israel in all ways possible.

7.  Demonstrate our support for Israel by observing the Purim.

Show Jews and Palestinians, living and working side-by-side. Show them enjoying peace and harmony with one another. Perhaps show them speaking with one another about G-d's Word? I'd mention V'ehavta
